A bit about the role


The Digital Local History Librarian is a newly created position that will oversee, develop, and maintain the Wyndham City Library Digital Local History Collection.


Based at our Hoppers Crossing Library, you will bring your experience in managing digital local history assets, ensuring best practices in digital collections to develop guidelines for the capture and quality control of items in the Wyndham Library Digital Local History Collection. This includes auditing and cleaning existing data to ensure they meet requirements. This role will review and deliver the digitisation and cataloguing of digital local history items, working closely with other Family and Local History staff. Additionally, your strong project planning and execution, fostering positive relationships through strong interpersonal and communication skills. This role will encourage local history research and collection development through the implementation of digital projects via community engagement and partnerships.

In addition, you will be rostered for regular library customer service shifts. Ad-hoc adjustments to your work pattern will be required for events or programs, including some evening work. This position may require rotating to other branches in line with operational requirements.


The work pattern for this role is:

  • Part Time – 17 hours per week negotiable across Tuesday - Friday



What you’ll deliver

  • Oversee, develop, curate, and maintain the Wyndham City Library Digital Local History Collection.
  • Develop and maintain guidelines for the capture and quality control of items in the Wyndham Library Digital Local History Collection, including auditing and cleaning existing data to ensure they meet requirements.
  • Review and deliver the digitisation and cataloguing of digital local history items.
  • Encourage local history research and collection development through the implementation of digital projects via community engagement and partnerships.
  • Respond and provide advice and support to customers, organisations, and staff on local history matters, together with other Family and Local History staff.
  • Deliver quality reference and information services to library customers, with a particular focus on Digital Local History.
  • Deliver training opportunities to the community and staff in the use of Digital Local History Collection resources.
  • Provide leadership to the library customer service team when rostered on desk.


What you’ll bring

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the management of digital local history assets, including an understanding of the best practices in implementing and managing digital collections
  • Demonstrated project planning and execution skills that ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing positive relationships with internal and external customers and teams through well-developed interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Proven skills in managing time, setting priorities, planning, and organising one’s own work.
  • Degree or Graduate Diploma in Information Management, Digital Humanities or relevant field, or equivalent with related relevant experience or lesser formal qualifications and substantial relevant related experience
  • A positive, curious, and flexible attitude.
  • A current Working with Children’s Check is required.
